from your message I assume you are using Windows
could try Virtualdub

or could try installing Cygwin (plus required packages) and Mplayer/Mencoder.
Cygwin is a linux like system for use inside windows.

possible usage:
mencoder prel.mpeg -ovc copy -oac copy -of avi -o prel.avi

Copy audio and video streams from prel.mpeg and store in avi container as filename prel.avi

I dont do the editing myself so I leave them unchanged while watching.
